August Specials!
I used to be healthy and fit, weighing 157 pounds, but that was a long time ago. It was the early 90s and I was still in the military. Shortly after getting out of the Air Force I started to gain weight. Over the next 18 years I packed on 80+ pounds. I was never happy with the gain, but somehow it never bothered me enough to actually do anything about it.
During that time I exercised sporadically, spending good money for gym memberships that went mostly unused. I tried those meal-replacement drinks, I went to a business that hawked weight-loss supplements, and I even did the phen-fen thing. Years passed but none of it seemed to make a difference.
Turning 40 seemed to light a fire under me. I joined Weight Watchers and lost 35 pounds. A few months into the program, I hurt my lower back exercising and fell off the exercise and weight loss wagon. I gained back everything I lost and a few more.
During Fiesta 2008, my best friend challenged me to lose weight. I accepted the challenge, but did nothing about it. Over the next couple of months my body started to fall apart: my knees hurt, my shoulders hurt, I always had back pain or heartburn or an upset stomach. I even had carpel-tunnel in my right wrist.
But the worst thing for me was having to go to a big and tall store for a new suit. I felt like I had hit an all-time low. The regular department stores didn't carry suits that would fit me.
Finally, I had enough. I rejoined Weight Watchers in August 2008. My starting weight was 235 pounds. I did well, losing close to 60 pounds. I took control of my diet and exercised like crazy, doing tons of cardio. I was very happy with the weight loss, but clearly, part of that loss was muscle mass. I was thinner, but very flabby. I had no defintion in my arms, chest, or legs.
While on vacation in Florida, I was out for a run and I came across a group of people doing a boot camp on the beach. What they were doing looked so enticing to me. I wanted to join them on the spot, but all I could do was run by and wish I was there.
A few months later I felt that I was ready for a new challenge. I'd lost 60 pounds and felt fit, but I was starting to struggle with boredom from my regular exercise routines. That's when I remembered the boot camp in Florida and decided to search for a camp here in San Antonio and came across SA Transformation Boot Camp.
When I started SA Transformation Boot Camp in May 2009, I weighed 175 pounds. My body fat percentage was 25.2%. Within 3 weeks of starting the camp I was seeing results that I had never seen after months of strictly cardio. I started to see definition in my arms, legs, and core.
Since May, my body fat percentage has dropped to 20.2%, I weigh 167, pounds and I have added nearly an inch to my arms and legs. I now have "cuts" on my arms. Here I am 43 years old and for the first time ever I am seeing defintion in my arms and legs.
The boot camp is certainly a challange. The first few weeks I struggled to stay within the Weight Watchers program because I was constantly hungry. I was having a very hard time staying within my food points. I brought this up with N-J and we discussed how the merits of losing weight with Weight Watchers were at odds with the muscle-building effects of the boot camp. N-J helped me to adjust my diet to include more protein, thus allowing me to continue with Weight Watchers.
Now that I have nearly reached my goal with Weight Watchers, I am ready to set new goals, goals that SA Transformation Boot Camp and N-J Osuna will help me attain.
